TomJ. Avery, 63, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 at his residence in Rockford, Illinois. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and a native of Yonkers, New York, Tom was a chemical engineer that had a love of science and was a devoted son and father. Surviving are his daughter, Erika (Ben) Franze of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Tom was preceded in death by father, Curt Avery and mother, Gerda Avery. Private service will be held and burial will be in the Jewish Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Arrangements by D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue. I remember Tom fondly & I'm sorry to hear of his passing. Thanks for placing an obit in The Journal News. We were friends in Westchester during the early 2000's. We met as members of Parents Without Partners.
I remember his ability to fix anything! He was very handy & never hesitated to offer to lend a hand with plumbing & other home repairs.
When we dined out at a nearby Mexican restaurant, he always brought along his own green sauce because whatever they offered wasn't hot enough for him :-)
He's the only man I knew who would spend 8 hours trying to make the most perfect rice & matzo balls; his love for chemistry was impressively apparent.
I tried to contact him several years ago but now see that he relocated to his home in Illinois. My condolences to Erika; he spoke of her often. RIP Tom...
